A portable diamond wire saw can be transported and redeployed more easily than a permanent production machine. It fits stone yards, quarry yards and project locations where the cutting position changes.

On the WISDOM configuration, the machine is positioned for cutting while the worktable provides controlled movement for automatic slabbing. Selection depends on frame opening, table size, travel and load capacity, together with transport and installation conditions.

Multi-Wire Saw

A multi-wire saw uses parallel wires to produce several slabs in one cycle. It is designed for regular blocks, repeat orders and stable thickness requirements. Frequent thickness changes reduce the advantage.

As a model-specific industry reference, Breton lists 20, 30, 40 and 50 mm or greater slab thicknesses for its Paragon series. The four configurations in its comparison table carry a maximum of 59, 60, 76 or 78 wires when sawing 20 mm thickness. 1. Incoming Material

Record stone type, maximum routine dimensions, weight and initial form: regular quarry block, irregular block, boulder, thick slab or semi-finished blank.

2. Cuts and Finished Products

Separate block squaring, straight slabbing and profile cutting. A slab producer has different requirements from a factory producing curved wall elements, columns or custom architectural components. Finished-product drawings help the manufacturer determine axes, table movement, wire orientation and cutting sequence.

3. Output and Product Mix

Define expected output and how often thickness or product geometry changes. Fixed-thickness slab production may justify a multi-wire system; varied dimensions and smaller batches often point to an adjustable single-wire machine.

Compare a stationary machine with a moving table, a travelling machine serving fixed blocks and a portable machine relocated between sites. Published research on granite multi-wire sawing reports bead diameters of 6.3–8.3 mm and wire linear speeds of 24–30 m/s for the systems studied. WISDOM's block-dressing product page lists 7.6–11.8 mm under “diamond wire diameter.” In the paper, bead diameter means the outside diameter of the diamond-impregnated bead. Suppliers may use “wire diameter” for the same finished outside dimension, so buyers should confirm the terminology rather than compare it with the bare steel-rope diameter. Ask the supplier to identify standard and optional functions separately. Test cutting should use representative material and dimensions whenever practical.

When Is a Wire Saw the Wrong Choice?

A suitable block saw can produce repetitive straight cuts faster. A bridge saw is usually more practical for sizing existing slabs. Simple block trimming may require no CNC profiling, while standardized high-volume slab production can justify a multi-wire line.
